NOTES

On Saturday, May 25, the Hawaii Chamber Music Festival (HCMF) will team up with the Hawaii International Music Festival (HIMF) in a multi-collaborative concert event featuring world-class classical musicians and scholarship quartet recipients from ‘Iolani School. HCMF and HIMF will celebrate the life and legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig Van Beethoven, and Johannes Brahms. Known as the three B’s, this classical music holy trinity will be led by HCMF Founder Chris Yick and HIMF Co-Founder Eric Silberger.

The program will begin with a side-by-side with students from the ‘Iolani School performing Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, followed by Beethoven’s String Trio No. 2 Op. 9, and concluding with the Brahms Sextet No. 2 Op. 36.

Making their Hawaii debut at the event will be ‘Iolani School Orchestra director and violist Alexander Pena, New York-based violist Andrew Gonzalez, and Los Angeles violinist Hwi-Eun Kim. The concert will also feature Hawaii Symphony Orchestra Associate Principal cellist Sung Chan Chang and Louisiana Philharmonic Assistant Principal cellist Daniel Lelchuk.

“I am really excited for this multi-collaborative effort,” says HCMF Founder Chris Yick. “The Hawaii International Music Festival has parallel ambitions with my organization, and I’m excited about teaming up to make a positive impact in our islands. As a graduate of ‘Iolani myself, this side-by-side will be an especially meaningful performance for me.”

The event is co-produced by the Hawaii Chamber Music Festival and the Hawaii International Music Festival in collaboration with ‘Iolani School. The concert will be at the Mae Zenke Orvis Auditorium; doors open at 7 p.m. For more information and tickets, visit www.hawaiicmf.org.
