Monica Chung

Festival Artist/Pianist

 

 

Pianist Monica Chung made her solo debut with the North Carolina Piedmont Triad Symphony Orchestra at the age of 10 performing Mozart Concerto K246. She has appeared as soloist with orchestras in London, Hungary, New York, and St. Petersburg in Russia under the baton of the late Sviatoslav Luther. An active chamber musician and soloist, she has participated in festivals around the world including but not limited to: Banff Chamber Music Festival; International Musicians Seminar (IMS) in Prussia Cove, England; Puigcerda International Music Festival in Spain; Ecoles dʻArt Americaines de Fontainebleau in France; Tel-Hai International Masterclasses in Israel; Leipzig International Music Festival in Germany. She is founder of the series A Night of Chamber Music with Ensemble Henrietta, which is a collaborative ensemble of international musicians.

As music director Monica particularly enjoyed working on Hawaiʻi Childrenʻs Theatre After Dark production of the controversial show Spring Awakening (August 2021), Kauai Community Players production of Sweeney Todd (May 2019), Nice Work If You Can Get It for Kauai Performing Arts Center (2017), and Carnival for Kauai Community College (2016).

Monicaʻs passion for teaching developed during her undergraduate studies, during which time she became faculty of the piano departments at the historical NYC landmark Greenwich House Music School, and Bergen Academy of Music and Art. She was Music Lecturer at Kauai Community College, and currently maintains a full private studio of talented young pianists. Monica is President of the Hawaiʻi Music Teachers Association.
