Praised for her “mature artistry” and “colorful lyric-coloratura voice” by the Vancouver Sun, Canadian soprano MIKAYLA SAGER has established herself as a young singer to follow. Currently residing in New York City, Ms. Sager is devoted to cultivating new audiences through her exploration of performing opera in progressive art forms and integrative venues.
This season, Ms. Sager was seen as Micaëla in Carmen with Venture Opera, where Allegri con fuoco described her as “an impressive Micaëla, embodying the madonna-like role with a sound that was pure, lyrical and soaring” and Schleppy Nabucco’s also said: "Mikayla Sager made her role debut as Micaëla; she was the epitome of innocence and gave a sweetly sung and heartfelt performance." Ms. Sager was also seen as Norina in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, as well as the cover of Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
Upcoming, Sager will be heard in a recital tour across Hawaii with the Hawaii International Music Festival as their featured Young Artist, as well as appearing with Opera Exposures in recital for National Opera week in the fall.
In past recent seasons, Sager performed The Fox in The Cunning Little Vixen with the Manhattan Summer Voice Festival, where she also assumed the role of Renata in the musical Nine; Franzi in Das Land des Lächelns with Manhattan School of Music, Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte with Manhattan Opera Studio, covering further, the roles of Pamina and Der Königin der Nächt. Partial roles she has performed include Adina (l’elisir d’amore), Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail,) La Fee (Cendrillon,) and in 2015, Ms. Sager was featured as a Young Artist in Sherill Milnes’s dynamic acting intensive program, Opera as Drama, as well as at the Savannah VOICE Festival in Savannah, Georgia, and as a Young Artist with SongFest in Los Angeles, where she worked with faculty such as Martin Katz, Graham Johnson, and Ann Murray. Sager completed her undergraduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music in 2015, and now studies privately in New York City with renowned soprano Diana Soviero.
