Andrew Ian McMillan

Tenor

Andrew Ian McMillan grew up as a hard-working child actor and model, appearing in hundreds of print ads, catalogs, tv commercials, singing radio jingles, performing in summer stock theater, movies, and numerous tv appearances including the first episode of Saturday Night Live. A lifelong choral singer, he was a frequent soloist with the Provincetown Choral Society, with one performance as the “solo tenor” memorialized in Mark Doty’s poem “Messiah (Christmas Portions)." As a soloist with the Outer Cape Chorale, Ian was asked to sing the Pearl Fishers duet, and this inspired a journey into opera repertoire as a student of Elizabeth Kelly. Upon moving to Hawaii in 2011, Ian joined the Hawaii Opera Theatre chorus and has appeared in more than 24 fully-staged operas on Oahu including Aida, Pearl Fishers, Tosca, Butterfly, Dialogues of the Carmelites, Romeo and Juliet, Tales of Hoffman, Eugene Onegin, and many more. As a member of Hawaii Opera Theatre's Mae Z Orvis Opera Studio, Ian has been coached by visiting professionals Sheri Greenawald, Mark Morash, Erie Mills, Tim Shaindlin, John Churchwell, Jake and Jill Gardner, Diane Alexander, and Louis Otey. Ian lives in Volcano, and sings locally with the Big Island Singers, Hilo Community Chorus, and the Volcano Festival Chorus.
