Joseph Call
Countertenor
Countertenor Joseph Call from Stony Point, NY, is currently studying at Brooklyn College, pursuing a BM in performance with a focus on voice. He is a student of Met opera soprano Amy Shoremount-Obra ,who has helped him find his voice, rooted in bel canto technique. His love for opera and technique comes from his admiration for historical recordings and old-school singers from the golden age of opera. Since he was five years old, he has been involved in theatre and performing, blending this love with his passion for the history of opera, which he explores through his performances.
Last summer, he made his international operatic debut in Italy and Bulgaria, singing Nella and Suor Dolcina in Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica, respectively, under the baton of Gregory Buchalter with the Varna International Music Festival. Joseph Call performs a wide range of repertoire, including baroque music, Mozart, and Puccini. He has a special fondness for bel canto and hopes to explore more of that repertoire. He aims to use his voice to break barriers by combining traditional technique with a modern voice type.
